Things didn’t seem to work out….

August 18, 2006

Okay. I know i haven't been blogging more than i should be…geez for what worth is a blog if you can not blog on a regular basis.

Some problems with the posting preferences have led me to go back home..er..i mean return to blogspot, so, although i.ph was a great landlord, i have no recourse but to return to the old home.

Well, slaphappy readers, here's the door…come home.

My wife turns thirty

August 5, 2006

My wife Bel, is turning three decades old today. Hahaha, well, that's how she's putting it and i find it really funny.

I heard her over the phone with her mom and she was joking about being three decades old which span four of the most influential times–running from the turbulent 70's, the wavey 80's, the grungy 90's and now into the new millennium.

I never dare ask her if she feels that old but i guess she's going to have quite a time coming to terms with the new shift into being 3-0. I know i had quite a ride reminiscing and thinking about where i was in life when i turned thirty a year ago.

No plans for a party, but we're meeting up with some old friends and grabbing dinner and probably hit the clubs after.

Long week, and it would be really great to unwind.

The Gucci Incident

August 2, 2006

I was reading through Yahoonews when i came about this story of a lady that got a whole flight delayed over the issue of not putting her handbag on the compartment above her seat nor did she like the idea of putting on the floor next to her.

The whole reason was because the bag was a Gucci.

Well, Gucci my fanned fanny. The whole uproar caused an hour's delay when the  woman contested the cabin crew's instructions to put her luxury handbag on the floor or in the compartment above her seat.

Well, the lady got tossed off, along with her companions much to the clapping and cheering of the passengers who were probably irked with the whole brouhaha.

I guess the lesson here children is; if you're insecure about the fake gucci bag and don't want to part with it, then don't use it.

Screaming Over Sukob

August 1, 2006

Bel's been working really hard since she got back to teaching so being the ever loving hubby, i took her out to the movies over the weekeknd and we decided to see the new Chito Rono screamer, Sukob.

The movie was a pleasant roller coaster ride into Filipino superstitions and the idea of having siblings married in the same year. Bad luck.

I guess what makes the whole movie creepy are the screams and nerve wracking scenes following up one after the another and in the end come to a sacrificial climax and end on to a what's next ending.

Kris aquino can act like she's not in some gameshow she's hosting. wendell ramos and bernard palanca pulled off good performances even if they didn't last long on the film and claudine barretto is pretty faced even if the whole world around her is dissapearing.

So if you're going to ask me if it was worth the 105 bucks i shelled for the movie…hmmm, ok…good enough.

But wait, since Rono has started a genre of horror movies owing to local superstitions, maybe , just maybe we can do horror flicks like…

1. Signos–you know what the old people say when you're nearing your birthday, graduation and wedding. You're not supposed to go out too much because your life is like, in danger…

2. Pinggang Iniikot–there's this superstition that if you are leaving the house and the people at home are still eating, like they have to turn the plates so that nothing happens to you…creepy.

3. Basa–and how about that old folktale about not sleeping when your hair is still wet. Yikes…

I know there are a hundred more superstitions that both baffle the mind yet we find really funny. I think lying somewhere out there is a superstition that can really be worth a new movie.

Duran-Duran anyone?

July 17, 2006

Ok, i am writing this post because…first i feel bad writing about the Rockstar post a week ago and ranted on Matt Hoffer picking out a Duran Duran song for a possible resurrection in his doomed campaign for rock stardom.

Well, let me say this and get this right out. I am a Duran duran fan. Always have been.

it all started with their late 80's album Big Thing, and i have thought of their songs as neat and deep.

The problem is, the sound of Duran Duran falls into a diffrent genre of things. it is definitely not hardcore rock. And with a panel like the one on Rockstar Supernova, i guess they were correct to say that it just wasnt their thing.

There, i feel a whole lot better.

One Busy Month

July 15, 2006

After a brief hiatus from work and a well deserved rest at the home front, i am back to work and boy do i have myself stuffed with projects that are gonna last me for the next few weeks. (sheesh, this is a stupid excuse for not being able to blog for the next few days.)

I am headed north which will culminate with a three-day weekend in Vigan (I have been invited to speak at a media shindig), which i am hoping that Bel and Chino could follow and spend their time with me there.

However, let me share with you a few bits and pieces of odd news that i came by;

Geeks rule! Or so they say, super genius Albert Einstein was said to have kept a few dalliances on the side. Yahoonews came out with a story that einstein did not feel less in the female companionship bit and was even able to share it through daily letters sent to his family.

Bloggers rule! Some guy who offered to trade a red paper clip for better things in life finally was able to get something better. A house. Wow, almost a year after he offered the trade, a small town in Canada offered him a house, complete with all the stuff you can ask for. All tnat because he blogged.

Well, i think i would want to be offered something better. But right now, i have got everything i want in front of me.

The Seething Storm Ceaseth

July 12, 2006

Because of the recent downpour in the weather, my stay at home has been extended lenghtily for a few more days (yep, this is the beauty of working on a per project basis). Today, i have found myself unable to leave the house because of the really bad weather and the inability to leave Bel and Chino alone at home.

it was raining all morning and then the President goes on the telly a few minutes after one in the afternoon and says she's suspending classes and work for both private and public schools and then government agencies as well.

Ironically, the rain came to a halt after the announcement. I was laughing my ass off all afternoon.

Geez, who made her president?

One Soaked Up Weekend

July 10, 2006

The weekend that went by was really a wet one. Man, it got to be so wet that i had to spend the rest of the two days at home and not even bothering to check on the rest of the outside world.

Much to mabel's delight (who enjoys it when i decide to hang around the house than go out and about), we just stayed in and wtached a few rented movies, gorged ourselves on junk food and soda and played with Chino. We also found time to do some reorganizing and moving stuff since we moved into the new house.

We also did a House MD Marathon. I was able to score one of those season compilations and we sat through one whole day of watching 22 episodes with only bathroom breaks and cigarette breaks for me.

I had an extended weekend of sorts Monday and we did a little shopping and some food tripping. Gosh, really busy.

No, Matt, Duran Duran will not save you…

July 8, 2006

I caught up with the latest episode of Rockstar:SUPERNOVA saturday afternoon and saw the shows first kick-out. Matt Hoffer, who got picked out as one of the three lowest ranked rocker candidates did a Duran Duran classic, Planet Earth, to help the rest of the judging panel get convinced to give him a second chance.

Alas, he got kicked out. Maybe somebody should have told Matt that yeah, Duran Duran is an ok band but no, they do not definitely rock, the same way a Nirvana or Pearl Jam song would have.

Go back to the day job.

We’re Here

I finally got fed up with the nuances i would usually go through with SLAP HAPPY's old host and finally checked out other providers who would take us in.

Well, just like moving out of an apartment, i've finally moved out of the old house and moved to another pad. I did a lot of tinkering and checking before i finally gave in and moved out of the old site to move to this one.

The urge to move could not have been any earlier.

I actually bumped into i.ph main-man Emil Advancena a few months ago at the Iblog2 summit where we both were invited speakers. Emil made a presentation on a more user friendly bloghost that was sson going to be in beta testing at the time. I was very impressed with his presentation but was pretty hesitant on moving sites.

Emil, however, was able to offer me an invitation to be one of the initial beta testers for their new line.

Since the summit, i have been busy moving around from one project to another to another and found it hard to do a regular posting routine for my blog. A week ago though, i got an email which had the details on how to start up with i.ph.

Fiddling here and there, i found the site easy to work with and can be manipulated by me even if i was in Timbuktu.

I'll be doing a few tweaks here and there and get that homey feel to this site before you can even blink.
